Ribbon, yarn, rope, wool over canvas

A core ethos in my work is to upcycle materials and incorporate recycled materials, scrap yarns, and second-hand yarns whenever possible. This canvas was salvaged from a street in Oakland near my very first studio and was the first in a mixed media series of weavings over canvas. There is some disruption here—bringing a medium long considered “craft” to the traditional presentation of paintings in the fine art world.

A full circle moment.

Painting was my first medium as a kid, spanning into young adulthood. In this series I’m able to combine one of my earliest art expressions with woven works.
